Invitation to Review for NSSE
We are seeking volunteers to review chapters for the following yearbooks:
106.2 (2007): Information and Communication Technologies: Considerations of Current Practice for Teachers and Teacher Educators. This yearbook will examine the gap between the promise of technology and its current reality in schools. It is devoted to classroom teachers and teacher educators because it is through them that this gap can be closed. Authors will identify the issues, the problematics, and the considerations that teachers and teacher educators should consider as they plan and implement uses of ICT with their students in mind.
107.2 (2008): "Why Do We Educate (in a Democratic Society)?" This volume will explore the foundational reasons behind American society's engagement in the education of its young, in an effort to expand and deepen the public discourse on the topic of education (both formal and "informal" schooling). Contributors will advance the moral, intellectual and democratic grounds for education in a democracy, and will be aimed at informing both policy and practice. It will accompany another volume that will feature essays written by prominent persons from many different fields, including the fine and performing arts, the professions, business and commerce, government, and philanthropic organizations, to reflect the thinking of those who have an articulate vision of how to advance the interests of children and youth in democratic society.
Future Reviewing Opportunities
Future volumes will focus on evidence and decision making on the part of educators; instructional, information, and communication technologies; and a two volume look at "Why Do We Educate?" Other topics under consideration include:
- Contentious issues in education
- The high school
- Early childhood education
- A reconsideration of citizenship: What exactly are we citizens of?
- Education and poverty
- School funding
- Community colleges
Please let us know if you are interested. Suggestions and proposals for yearbooks are welcome!
